There are so many great places to enjoy in Detroit for food, drinks, fun, and more, but as we all know when traveling, sometimes it’s easy just to stay in the hotel and grab a close drink.
Thankfully, the Motor City is filled with incredible hotels, and with that comes some really great bars. So, after a night out in the city, if you want to have a drink close to your room to close out the night, here are some places to do so.
The Apparatus Room at Detroit Foundation Hotel
Inside an old Detroit Fire Department Firehouse, The Apparatus Room offers incredible cocktails that have been inspired by their accomplished mixologists.
According to their website, the bars cocktail program is “classically focused with an inspiration drawn from the history of the building and the city itself.” Their drink menu is very large with different wines, whiskeys, tequila, and more. Plus, they have a list of foundation cocktails which include an old-fashioned-type drink, the “Elderflowerade,” an espresso martini, and more.

The Monarch Club at The Element Hotel
There are great views at The Monarch Club, a rooftop bar located at the top of the Element Hotel in the heart of Downtown Detroit.
The bars space has indoor and outdoor tables that are available year-round, so take in the sights while sipping on a delicious drink. They have exclusive cocktails like “Naked and Afraid” with Mezcal, Aperol, serrano peppers, and more, or the “Absinthe Minded” which includes gin, Lillet Blac, curacao, and lemon.

Evening Bar at The Shinola Hotel
A speakeasy bar in the basement of The Shinola Hotel, you enter Evening Bar through Parker’s Alley, which is behind the hotel off Woodward Ave.
They have a list of non-alcoholic spirits and bars for those who want to stay dry, or you can try some of their highball or session cocktails. One that screams Michigan is the “State Fair,” which includes Michigan tart cherry bourbon and creamy lemonade, or the “Life Coach” which includes cucumber-infused mezcal, Aperol, vermouth blanc, and bitters.
W XYZ Bar at Aloft Hotel
On the bottom floor of the historic David Whitney Building, the W XYZ Bar is a great place to enjoy a drink in the heart of the city. It’s just a few blocks from Comerica Park, Ford Field and Little Caesars Arena, so you’ll be close to everything.
The colorful vibe inside this bar will have you enjoying yourself while drinking a beer or sipping a glass of wine.
Candy Bar at The Siren Hotel
You likely haven’t seen a bar like Candy Bar, inside the boutique Siren Hotel along Broadway in Detroit. The décor is all pink inside, and you’ll feel like you’re in a giant ball of cotton candy. Candy Bar is one of the hippest bars in Detroit right now. Head through the velvet pink curtain, and you feel like you’re in a whimsical other world: the bar itself is instantly recognizable for its 100% candy-pink décor and the 1500-piece Murano glass chandelier. The drinks bear mentioning, too. Try a “Cocoa Chanel” chocolate cocktail, a classic espresso martini, a “Bubble Rum,” or any number of their seasonally changing candy-themed cocktails.
It has a variety of cocktails you can try like the “Morning Dew” with botanist gin, Cocchi rosa, HoneyDew, mint, and lime, or the “Oaxacan Sunrise” with tequila, mezcal, watermelon, lemon, and cilantro.
High Bar at Marriott Renaissance Center
At the top of the tallest building in Detroit, High Bar and its accompanying restaurant, Highlands, serve up unique drinks with a large spirits menu with sky-high views of Downtown Detroit.
You don’t need reservations for High Bar, and you can order right off the lounge menu for food.
Drink-wise, their cocktail and spirits menu is nearly two dozen pages, with a large variety of scotch and bourbon. Their Highlands Old Fashioned is made with single barrel Knob Creek, picked specifically for Highlands, pecan bitters, orange, and a luxardo cherry.
High Bar also has a list of seasonal drinks that will make you feel like it does outside.

Motor Bar at The Westin Book Cadillac
The Motor Bar is inside one of the most historic hotels in Detroit, right in the lobby of the Westin Book Cadillac.
The bar is inspired by Detroit’s rich history and has light food and “inventive drinks.”

Ghost Bar at The Whitney
Ghost Bar is located in The Whitney – a famous Detroit mansion built in the 1890s. The opulent mansion has had an interesting history through the years, and somewhere along the way it picked up some ghost stories. The Ghost Bar capitalizes on these haunted tales – not just through its name, but through some of its specialty cocktails (like the "Witching Hour"). They even proclaim to have the best "spirits" in Detroit…If you are looking to mingle with some ghosts (and punny drinks), this is certainly the bar for you,
