The Dossin Great Lakes Museum, located on the scenic Belle Isle Park along the Detroit River, is a maritime museum dedicated to showcasing Detroit’s significant role in the history of the Great Lakes[1]. Established in 1961, the museum features a variety of exhibits, including one of the largest collections of model ships in the world and the massive bow anchor of the SS Edmund Fitzgerald[2].
Visitors can explore the Miss Pepsi hydroplane, one of the fastest racing boats of its time, and the SS William Clay Ford Pilot House, where you can experience being the captain of a Great Lakes freighter[2]. The museum also offers a restored smoking lounge from the SS City of Detroit III, transporting visitors back to the golden age of lake steamers[2].

Parking:
Parking is free for vehicles with a valid State of Michigan Recreation Passport or a Day Pass. A parking lot is located adjacent to the museum off of The Strand[1].
